Summary: This article describes how the issue of immigration has escalated since the turn of the century.  The government chose to focus resources to combat terrorism, which has led to increased violations in immigration law.

Support:  Bush Administration, Homeland Security Department, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, Angela Kelley, deputy director of the National Immigration Forum, Ben Salazar, a longtime activist and publisher of the newspaper Nuestro Mundo, Operation Vanguard.

Mark Krikorian and Angela Kelley both attack the Bush Administration’s commitment to enforce interior immigration law.  They call it laughable.  Ben Salazar explains that white Americans don’t want to be meat packers, and therefore the immigrants realize that there is opportunity and a need for their services.

Source Analysis:
The Washington Post is a well- known newspaper based out of Washington D.C.  It places particular emphasis on U.S. politics. and international affairs.  According to wikipedia,  Washington Post reporters Bob Woodard and Carl Bernstein were responsible for the coverage of Watergate which led to the resignation of President Nixon; one of the most famous incidents in the Post’s history.

This is an important article because it describes the situation of immigration and how it has progressed into a serious issue.  The shifting of finances to fight terrorism have caused lack of enforcing immigration law. There are many important views in the article with valid perspectives.
